主讲人简介/Biography:

Dr. Yang Gao received his B.S. degree from Peking University in 2012 and Ph.D. degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2017. Before joining ZJU in 2020, Dr. Gao worked as postdoc scholar at University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Gao has authored more than 10 peer-reviewed papers on high-profile journals, including Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, etc. His research is focused on the novel mechanical and other physical properties of 2D materials and van der Waals heterostructures with the methods of scanning probe microscopy and diamond anvil cell.


讲座摘要/Abstract:

The interlayer van der Waals (vdW) plays a key role in the emergence of the novel physical properties of two-dimensional (2D) materials and their heterostructures. In this presentation I will first introduce a novel methodology - Angstrom indentation (Å-I) which can characterize and tune the vdW interactions in 2D materials. An ultrahard monolayer diamond structure driven from bilayer graphene by Å-I will then be discussed. The second part demonstrates the band engineering of graphene/h-BN moiré superlattices by enhancing the vdW interactions via high pressure. The primary and secondary Dirac gaps in the superlattices are enlarged by pressure.
