Dr. Yan-Hui Xu, Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, China; Institutes of Biomedical Sciences, Fudan University, China (joint position)

Dr. Xu received his B.S. (1995-1999) and Ph.D. (1999-2004) from Tsinghua University in Zihe Rao's lab, where he studied the mechanism of virus fusion. He went to Princeton University as a postdoctoral scholar in Yigong Shi's lab, where he studied the structural basis for assembly of protein phosphatase 2A holoenzymes. He moved to Fudan University in 2008 as a principal investigator. His research focuses on transcription regulation by using biochemistry, structural biology, and cutting-edge technologies.

讲座摘要/Abstract:

In eukaryotic organisms, cell-type-specific gene expression is mediated by combinatorial action of transcription factors and transcription machineries in the context of chromatin, which provides framework for differential gene expression and cell fate determination during development. Regulatory proteins, RNA, noncoding bits of DNA, even chemical and structural alterations of the genome itself control how, where, and when genes are expressed. Dr. Xu wants to reveal the structural basis of the dynamic regulation of chromatin structure and molecular mechanism for transcription in the context of chromatin.
